Obedience Challenge - Day 1

NEW CHRISTIAN BIBLE READING PLAN

Welcome to today's Obedience Challenge! We're beginning an epic, 90 day Journey through the Gospels, learning to love and follow Jesus as his disciples. The Scripture reading for today is: Matthew 1

Click HERE to read it in the NIV.

Click HERE to read or listen to it in the ESV.

TODAY'S COMMAND TO OBEY:

Today, we're looking at the command of Jesus in Matthew 4:17, “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."  How can a Christian truly keep this command? Watch the video above to learn how. Each day of the Obedience Challenge contains these things:

  • 3-4 minutes of teaching

  • 1 minute of praising God for the command

  • 1 minute of repentance over Jesus' command

  • 1 minute of listening to the Holy Spirit

  • 1 minute of asking God for help in obeying the command Jesus gave

To get a quick overview of Matthew's Gospel, check out this 8 minute video from The Bible Project:

How can I become a disciple of Jesus?

"Discipleship is the process of becoming who Jesus would be, if he was you." - Dallas Willard

Discipleship means learning about Jesus in order to imitate and become like him. If you are a brand new Christian, or even if you've been around church a lot, you need to become a disciple of Jesus, not just a fan. Jesus isn't really about making people who are better informed -- he's about making people who are transformed to be like Him!

NewStart Discipleship is a program to help new Christians become disciples of Jesus -- to be transformed and grow in knowledge of the Bible, what Jesus is like, and grow in holiness.

If you're just getting started in your walk with God, you can also download the Obedience Challenge Workbook here.
